About Bovespa
The Ibovespa is Brazil's main stock index, tracking the most-traded shares on B3 (formerly BM&FBovespa) using a liquidity- and free-float-weighted methodology rebalanced quarterly. It is the benchmark for Brazilian large-cap equity performance, dominated by commodity giants (Vale, Petrobras), big banks (Itaú, Bradesco, Banco do Brasil) and consumer staples. Local-currency returns can look very different from USD-adjusted returns because the Brazilian real (BRL) is volatile against the dollar. The index is sensitive to commodity prices (iron ore, oil), Brazilian central bank Selic decisions, fiscal politics and global emerging-market risk appetite. B3 trades 13:00–20:00 UTC (Brasília time, adjusted for DST).
