Tether Gold (XAUT) is a gold-backed token issued by TG Commodities Limited, an entity within the Tether group, launched in 2020. Each XAUT represents one troy ounce of allocated, audited London Good Delivery gold held in a Swiss vault. The token tracks the spot price of gold and lets holders redeem for physical bullion (subject to minimums and KYC) or convert via supporting exchanges. As a centralised, asset-backed token, it carries counterparty risk on the issuer and custodian — verify the latest holdings attestation before holding large balances. Useful as a way to hold gold exposure on-chain.
