USDS is a US-dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Sky (formerly MakerDAO), introduced in 2024 as part of the Endgame plan and positioned as the upgraded successor to DAI. It is backed by overcollateralised crypto positions and tokenised real-world assets held inside the Sky protocol, and can be converted 1:1 with DAI. Holders can opt in to the Sky Savings Rate to earn protocol-funded yield. USDS is not a bank deposit — its peg depends on Sky's collateral, the smart contracts that manage it and governance decisions by MKR/SKY token holders.
