Pi Network (PI) is the native token of Pi, a project that launched in 2019 by letting users "mine" Pi from their phones with minimal device load. The open mainnet went live in early 2025 after several years in closed testnet and "enclosed" mainnet phases. PI is used for in-network transactions and as the unit of value across Pi-ecosystem apps. The project is polarising: it has a very large claimed user base but has been criticised for its closed development cadence and slow path to a fully open network.
