Kaspa (KAS) is a proof-of-work Layer 1 launched in 2022 that uses a novel "GhostDAG" / BlockDAG protocol allowing blocks to coexist in parallel rather than being orphaned, enabling very fast block times (~1 second) without compromising security. No premine or pre-allocation — fully community-mined. Smart-contract functionality is more limited than Ethereum but the network is actively scaling toward smart contracts via the Crescendo upgrade.
