Ethereum Classic (ETC) is the continuation of the original Ethereum blockchain after the 2016 DAO-hack hard fork. While most of the community moved to today's Ethereum, ETC kept the original "immutable" chain and its "code is law" philosophy. ETC still uses proof-of-work (Ethereum itself moved to proof-of-stake in 2022), making it one of the few remaining major PoW smart-contract chains. Developer community and on-chain usage are much smaller than ETH's. Like all crypto, expect volatility — research carefully before investing.
